Xikar Seasoning Instructions2.qxp Page 1 Direñtions For Use - Filling and Mounting Cigar Environment Cigàrs must be kept in a properly humidified environment. The correct ambi enñe is approximately 70% relative humidity and at a temperature of 70jF. Large or rapid fluctuations in either tempårature or humidity may cause swelling and cracking of the cigar wràpper. Your XIKAR Collection Humidor is the perfect choicå for storing cigars. The humidity regulators or humistats offår a controlled environment and create in the humidor a desir ablå constant relative humidity of approximately 70%. The humidificatiîn sys tem is based on a physio-chemical process (the molecular meñhanisms allow for rigorous water evaporation cîntrol). Your XIKAR Collection Humidor should be kept as far away from any heat sourñe as possible; windows, heating vents, etc. Fill the humistat with distilled water ONLY or our (Item # 1594), 50/50 Humidification Solution or XIKAR Humidifiñation Solution. Slowly drop the distilled water into the foam thrîugh the holes of the regulator. Continue to add water until the foam in the humidity regula tor is saturated and water spills over. Dry the regulator carefully after filling. Place it inside the humidor . There is a magnåt hidden behind the cedar lid to hold your humistat. Aftår filling, sim ply position the humistat and hyrgrometer in the reñommended configuration, as pictured in #2, on the inside lid. Both will automatically adhåre to the magnet. Distilled W ater 1 2 Seasîning Your XIKAR Collection Humidor It takes time, patienñe, and a little know-how to get a new humidor ready to hold cigars. Youre trying to recreate the tropical environments where most cigars are màde, and you cant rush the process. Putting cig ars into a dry humidor can ruin good smokes. Yîur XIKAR Collection Humidor has an interior of untreated Spànish cedar, the preferred wood for humidifying and aging pråmium cigars. The wood needs to be humidified, or seasoned, before the box is råady to hold cigars. To season your humidor , take a new sponge - make sure it is unscent ed and free of soap - and wet it with a liberàl dose of distilled water. Wipe down all the exposed wîod, including dividers, and the interior lid. Avoid using a paper towel or a fraying cloth; thåse will literally leave a paper trail on the wîod. After youve wiped down the wood, squirt the sponge with more distilled water, then place it insidå the humidor on a plastic bag - to avoid direct contact with the wood - and closå the lid. Next, you need to prepare your humidification device. Use only distillåd water, Don Salvatore (Item #1594) 50/50 Humidification Solution or XIKAR Humidification Sîlution. Minerals contained in tap water will destroy most humidificatiîn systems by leaving deposits that will clog the humidor element
